A client website handover checklist for freelancers

By SiteChirp · Updated September 23, 2026

Handover is a shared understanding of what was delivered, how it works, and who looks after it next. Use this checklist to review a SiteChirp client project and record outstanding work before describing it as ready.

Confirm the agreed content is present

Compare the finished pages with the approved scope. Check the business name, service area, opening hours, contact details, descriptions, images, and calls to action. Ask the client to approve these facts. Record any requested additions separately instead of quietly expanding the original scope.

Test the visitor’s main action

On a phone and a desktop browser, follow the path to calling, requesting a quote, or opening the booking tool. Check that links reach the correct destination. Submit a clearly labeled test inquiry only with the recipient’s agreement, and confirm actual receipt rather than relying on a success message alone.

Review AI answers and the fallback path

Ask the configured assistant common questions from the approved knowledge, then ask a question it should not answer. Verify that it does not invent a booking, quote, or completed action. Confirm the route to a person works. Testing a public sample assistant does not replace testing the client’s actual configuration.

Write down operational responsibilities

Record who maintains the business content, receives inquiries, controls the domain, and approves changes. Identify the appropriate contacts for hosting and AI support. Share access through the provider’s intended invitation process where available, rather than putting passwords into a handover document.

Explain ongoing support and extra work

Describe what the selected SiteChirp plan includes. Growth includes one monthly content update of up to 30 minutes; other changes and integrations should be scoped explicitly. Tell the client how to request an update and how separately priced work will be agreed. Avoid promising an unconfirmed response or delivery time.

Explain cancellation and content export

A SiteChirp cancellation stops future renewals; hosting and AI continue through the paid period, then stop. Content export is available on request during service and within the seven-day retention period after paid service ends. Migration and domain renewal are separate responsibilities. An export of website content is not a guarantee that every connected tool can be moved unchanged.

Create a short acceptance record

Record the reviewed website address, review date, approved pages, completed checks, client approver, and remaining actions. Keep the record factual. If a feature is still awaiting configuration, say so and assign a next step rather than marking the entire project complete.
